Saving Energy
With the increasing population and the rate at which the resources are depleting it is time that we start thinking about alternative sources of energy and start bringing them into use. One of the best forms of natural energy is the solar energy.
Solar energy is the energy produced from the sun’s radiation. It can be produced basically in two ways. First is the photovoltaic conversion of light and other is by capturing the heat from the light. There a number of methods by which one can utilize the sun’s energy by converting it into electricity.
To begin with, one of the best ways to utilize the solar energy is by the means of green house. Green houses are used to retain the sun’s energy so that the carbon in it can be used by the plants. Also the heat provides the plants optimum temperature for growth in otherwise cold climate regions. They are built from special types of glass and plastic to retain the sunlight.
To collect the energy from sun one can also use photovoltaic conversion. Photodiodes are special diodes that are used to convert light into electricity. These photodiodes are used to prepare cells that are in turn used to convert the solar energy. The photodiodes emit electrons when the photons from the sunlight hit them. By using arrays of the special cells and electrically connecting them together, enough power is produced by the transduction process to make it a worthwhile alternative energy.
There a number of benefits of using solar energy. To begin with it saves a huge amount of money. You only need to invest in the beginning which can be recovered in a very short period of time after which it is almost free. It is environment friendly and is clean. It does not pollute the environment with any kind of poisonous gases. It does not require much maintenance. After installation there are no recurring costs. You can easily add more solar panels to the existing ones without any hassles.
There a few disadvantages also. Although the initial cost is recovered but it is very high due to the use of semi conducting materials required for the solar panels. To achieve a efficient amount of solar energy you require a large area for the installation of a number of solar panels. The efficiency of energy completely depends upon the sun, its location which can be influenced by the presence of clouds and pollution. So it is not completely reliable. Most importantly, there will be no solar energy during the night unless you have a battery backup.
Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth said Henry David Thoreau, American poet, naturalist and philosopher, best known for his book Walden dedicated to simple living in natural surroundings. He lived in the middle of 19 century and could not merely figure out how ecology of our planet will be changed with the coming of our technology age. Yes, we never know the worth of water till the well is dry.
The problem of disposing of hazardous and toxic waste that might make harmful to human health and the environment is probably one of the most important problems our civilization which has to be solved as soon as possibly. You may say that such waste doesn’t bring and immediately harmful but be sure that it can be in future if we don’t find efficient methods for proper storage, collect, containerize, conservation and hazardous waste disposal such types of danger waste as some classes of chemicals and batteries, asbestos and fluorescent tubes, fridges and freezers, discarded energy saving light bulbs and more and more things we use in everyday life but which are really endangering millions of lives and may totally change and even destroy the environment.
The Earth is dying then you must try all your best to change the situation. Have you thought about recycling at your home? Recycling is a great chance to start going green. You can begin from such simple steps as buying recycling products. Try to learn more about what is recycling. Find out what items in your house can be recycled. Do you know that up to 90% of glass recycling can be reused to make new glass items. Find computer recycling and disposal services which will help you to dispose of IT equipment in an environmentally responsible way.
If we are to go on living together on this earth, we must all be responsible for it.
Ecology is one of the most important things people have to keep and in the light of this problem searching a new way of getting energy for future power generation. According to BBC a Japanese electronics firm has shown off a vibration-harvesting generator that could replace standard batteries. “It’s great because they will work OK in a low-power application for AA batteries that one can shake without breaking; a remote control, for example,” Carl Telford an analyst at electronics business consultants Strategic Business Insights told.
“Of its size, it is small, compact, and directly compatible with existing power sources. Brother says that it can produce enough power at reasonably low frequencies, around 4-8Hz – this is impressive.
“Walking with a device in your pocket would vibrate with a frequency of around 2Hz. You’d need to shake the remote quite briskly, but it would work.”

There are no plans to commercialise the batteries as yet. “Currently the cells are still in the trial phase and so far we do not have a clear business plan for this item. However, we will continue to monitor the market to make a business plan when needed.”
Albany, NY – January 11, 2010
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is looking for clean and tidy design when it is about saving energy or protecting the environment. NYSERDA has started a new contest online on their website, by entering into it you can advantage great chance to win things for yourself, two types of contests are onsite, one is Video competition and the other one is Essay Writing Contest and the contestants can win stuff of ‘Energy Star’ qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) home makeover, a free home performance assessment. An opportunity to get marked in NYSERDA’s next television commercial more prizes. Only New Yorkers can participate in this Contest, of all ages.
It is a motivated and go-getting online contest and is one way that NYSERDA is gathering New Yorkers to save more than 1 million megawatt hours of electricity by setting up 16.9 million CFL’s statewide. New York has been the most electricity consuming state and also the making more efforts than any other in setting up to condense energy usage, to put together a positive system for future. Only by switching to ‘Energy Star’ qualified CFLs can save hundreds and millions of dollars in energy cost to improve the environment.
This Contest is looking for New Yorkers not only to win stuff, but also who can dictate a real action to make others follow them. To come in the ‘Shining Example’ Competition to win stuff from NYSERDA’s competition, you will have to submit a 90-second video or at least 250 words essay in which describing why they have moved over to ‘Energy Star’ and what does this will be helpful to them.
